When Jen and Lyns returned from their travels, we all decided that it was the Studioettes' turn to get creative! The Studio was lucky enough to receive a grant from the Glasgow West Area Arts Network to create a new collection of textiles inspired by J and L's research in India and Nepal. It was a chance for us at The Studio to explore patterns, colours and textures, as well as learn about the way of life and the textiles industries in those countries.
Taking The Studio's new 'World Textiles Library' (consisting of amazing fabrics gathered on the trip) as inspiration, we studied the textiles, we learned about the stories connected to them, we drew, we admired, and together we made a plan of what we'd do. We only had six weeks, but that didn't stop us from thinking big...have a look at these pictures, which describe how we came up with our finished products: new fangled and technological digitally printed fabrics for interiors (in our case our very own 'Chill Zone') AND our traditional and hand crafted, block printed and embroidered quilt. Enjoy!

The very clever people at the Glasgow School of Art CAT Centre helped us to translate our drawings into digital prints which we turned into these fabulous seats for our 'Chill Zone'
We also block printed (using these blocks from India), dyed and embroidered fabric squares, which we stitched together to make our very own 'heritage quilt'.
Finally, we made an exhibition of ourselves with our 'Expedition Exhibition'!
